To tackle the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon with full confidence, proper physical preparation is only part of the equation. Having a well-defined nutrition strategy is just as essential. Knowing what to take, when to take it, and why can make the difference between enjoying the experience and suffering through the final kilometres. With Enervit products, it is possible to stay ahead of energy depletion and maintain a steady carbohydrate intake throughout the race.
Marathon (42K): sustained energy to avoid hitting the wall
In the marathon, the most common mistake is waiting until hunger or fatigue kicks in before taking gels. The strategy here is designed to stay ahead of that point. Before the start, the goal is clear: top up your energy stores. That is why a pre-race product is recommended to prepare the body and make energy readily available from the gun. ENERVIT PreSport provides 24.5 grams of carbohydrates and is essential regardless of the pace you are aiming to run.
Once the race is underway, gel intake should begin during the first third of the course, although the exact kilometre will vary depending on the runner’s pace. At faster paces (3:45–4:00 min/km), the first gel should be taken around kilometre 12, about 45 minutes into the race. Ideally, this would be ENERVIT’s basic Gel, which provides 20 grams of carbohydrates.
Around kilometre 20, fatigue starts to build and the halfway point is just around the corner. At that stage, the Cola-flavoured Carbogel Caffeine, with its 2:1 maltodextrin-to-fructose formula, provides 40 grams of carbohydrates along with that extra energy boost. Then, at kilometre 32, another Carbogel—this time without caffeine—delivers the support needed to maintain pace and reach the finish line strong.
If you are running at a pace of 4:30–5:00 min/km, you should take four servings instead of three: the basic Gel at kilometre 9, a Carbogel (without caffeine) at kilometre 16, the Carbogel Caffeine at kilometre 24, and another Carbogel at kilometre 33.
Meanwhile, if you are running at a pace of 5:30 min/km, you should take up to five ENERVIT sports nutrition servings during the race. Ideally, the first would come at kilometre 8, around 45 minutes into the race, followed by two Carbogels at kilometres 15 and 22. The fourth serving would come at kilometre 30 with the Carbogel Caffeine, and finally another Carbogel at kilometre 37.
In addition, all participants, regardless of pace, should alternate water intake with ENERVIT Isotonic Drink from the start all the way to the finish, in order to replenish mineral salts and benefit from its vitamin blend.
Likewise, after finishing the marathon, ENERVIT offers two formulas to optimise recovery: Magic Cherry, made with cherry extract and containing 300 mg of antioxidant polyphenols, and R2 Recovery Drink, a recovery beverage with maltodextrins, branched-chain amino acids, and protein.
