Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon strengthens its position as one of the top marathons in Europe. Its 8th edition sold out all available spots months ago and will once again be the island’s biggest sporting event in terms of participation. Over 6,000 runners will enjoy the natural surroundings of Ibiza this Saturday, April 12, participating in one of the three race formats: the marathon (officially certified 42.195 km), the 22K, or the 12K.
These three distances make the event accessible to runners of all levels and abilities. A key point is the significant presence of international athletes: up to 70% of registered participants come from outside Spain, showing that the race’s appeal is not only athletic but also strongly touristic. This results in a notable economic impact on sectors such as hospitality and catering—both crucial to the island’s economy. Also noteworthy is the level of female participation, with women making up 45% of total registrations.
Dennis Kimetto, the star of the 8th Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon
Throughout the weekend, a variety of activities will take place alongside the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon, including a training session led by Dani Mateo, Olympic athlete and event ambassador. The athlete from Soria returns to Ibiza once again, aiming to win the 22K race. Additionally, he will lead a guided warm-up run for interested participants on Friday at 6:30 p.m. “Ibiza is an island full of surprising landscapes. The routes are pure joy to run, and the views as you approach the coast make every bit of effort worthwhile. This race is a permanent fixture in my calendar,” he says.
Dani won’t be the only elite athlete at this edition. Also racing the 22K will be Yessica Mas, Spain’s marathon champion in 2022, and Kenyan runner Lilian Cherono. In the 12K race, Adrià Guirado will once again be one of the favorites. Meanwhile, in the marathon distance, one of the greatest marathoners in history will be taking part: Dennis Kimetto, former world record holder and the first man to run under 2 hours and 3 minutes. He has also won prestigious marathons such as Chicago, Tokyo, and Berlin. Another Kenyan contender aiming for the win is Samson Keiyo.
All participants in the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon will receive a commemorative race shirt from official technical sponsor Joma: blue for marathon runners, green for the 22K, and orange for the 12K.
The inclusive spirit of the Santa Eulària Kids Run Caixabank
In addition to the 42K, 22K, and 12K races, the Santa Eulària Kids Run Caixabank will take place on Saturday morning, bringing together dozens of children aged 4 to 14. The event is supported by well-known Catalan athlete Álex Roca, who has 76% cerebral palsy and will also be participating in the 12K race.
Children and teenagers with special needs from APNEEF (Association for People with Special Needs of Eivissa and Formentera), the event’s official charity, will also be taking part in the kids’ races.
Once again, the Ibiza-based event highlights its inclusive and charitable character, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience and feel like true runners for a day. All children participating in the five categories of the Santa Eulària Kids Run Caixabank will receive a finisher medal.
The #RunAndFeel party, the cherry on top
Francisco Larrey, director of Talentum Group (event organizer), says, “We’re excited to host the 8th edition of the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon. We’re proud that this race became the largest sporting event in the history of Ibiza. This year, we’ve worked hard to keep growing in a sustainable way that maintains the quality experience we offer athletes. We’re welcoming over 6,000 participants this year, with 70% coming from abroad—an enormous responsibility for our entire team.”
Additionally, all participants, along with their families and local residents, will be able to enjoy the #RunAndFeel party, which will be held in two iconic locations: Las Dalias in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu and Teatro Pereyra in Ibiza Town. These events have limited capacity and are open to any participant who picks up an invitation at the expo, until spaces run out.
